Living on a giant rock

Dindar, Harijan and kids

These are Dindar, Harijan and their kids on their balcony in Amadiya in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The ancient town is located entirely on a giant rock. Dindar and Harijn are lucky enough to have a house right by the edge of the rock’s cliff from where one can enjoy spectacular views. The town of Amadiya was founded by the Assyrians around 2500 BC, and now constitutes a well-integrated community of Assyrian Christians, Jews and Muslim Kurds who share the city and local social events.
