On Chechen wedding traditions and nephews working in Moscow

Sulban

Sulban was attending a traditional Chechen wedding in Gudermes, one of the bigger towns in Russia’s Chechen Republic. She is a distant relative of the groom. Most of her family lives in Chechnya, but she also has a nephew who is working in Moscow. As Chechen tradition prescribes she was sitting only with women, while men would be seated at tables in a different part of the hall.
