Once upon a time, every night 2000 people flocked to the revue theatre “Es Fogueró Palace” in the north-east of Mallorca. But after only a few years the entertainment temple closed its doors forever, the business was too unprofitable. The place only made the headlines again when a body was found there.

In Belarus gibt es keine Obdachlosen und keine Armut. So lautet zumindest die Staatsdoktrin der autoritären Regierung von Präsident Alexander Lukaschenko. Die Realität ist davon allerdings weit entfernt, wie eine Reise in das osteuropäische Land sowie Treffen mit Betroffenen und Vertretern von Hilfsorganisationen zeigen.

“Salome, Salome!”, halt es durch das fast leere Restaurant. Aus einem Séparée dringen die Rufe nach außen, nur ein lila Vorhang trennt den Bereich vom großen Saal. Drinnen sitzen sieben Männer, halbleere Teller stapeln sich auf dem Tisch, eine wuchtige Weinkaraffe dreht unentwegt ihre Runden. Und wieder ruft einer der Männer feixend: “Salome, bring uns Käse!”.
